It dates from 1939 according to the inscription on its back: 1939 Mc Carthy inc.

Mortimer Snerd was Edgar Bergen's secondary ventriloquist dummy, appearing with Bergen and Charlie McCarthy.

Created in 1938, Mortimer made his debut in Bergen's radio series, The Chase and Sanborne Hour.
