Mahogany wood and leather bellows chamber.

Closed MeasuremThe Argus Reflex Camera was manufactured by the Watson & Sons company from 1907 to approximately 1926. The body of the camera is made from the best selected and seasoned Spanish mahogany and covered in black morocco leather and the metal parts finished in black to render the camera unobtrusive. The bellows extends via rack and pinion for focus adjustment. The reflex mirror allows the photographer to watch and focus the image up to the instant of exposure. A hood of sufficient length cuts off all outside light and is shaped to fit closely around the eyes. The focal plane shutter is built into the back of the camera with a comprehensive range of instantaneous speeds up to 1/1200 of a second, including time and bulb. A reversible back and a ground glass screen is provided with a focusing shade for stand work. The lens was typically the Holostigmat Series I lens. This camera was made in six sizes, including 3 1/2 x 2 1/2 inch, quarter plate, 5 x 4 inches, 5 1/2 x 3 1/2 inch, half plate, 6 3/4 x 3 1/4 inches. Prices ranged from £17 15 0 to £31 10 0.
