The Czech-American Meopta Group is a manufacturer of optical products such as binoculars, spotting scopes and telescopic sights. The company founded by Alois Beneš and Dr. Mazurek in 1933 under the brand name Optikotechna also produced cameras (Meopta Flexaret), slide projectors and stereo cameras. Mazurek designed the first enlarger lens to be manufactured in Czechoslovakia.

During the German occupation, from 1939 to 1945, Optikotechna was engaged in the manufacture of direction finders, rangefinders, periscopes, binoculars and telescopic sights for the German military.

In 1946 the company was nationalised and changed its name to Meopta. By the 1970s the company had become one of the leading manufacturers of enlargers and film projectors.
