In 1961, BEAULIEU added the MAR 8 ‘Automatic’ model to its 8 mm range, equipped with an Angénieux K2 zoom lens (or Schneider-Kreuznach Variogon in Germany). It offers automatic (switchable) exposure control. The exposure is measured by a C.D.S. cell under the lens. This camera also inherits all the improvements already present in the MR 8 and TR 8 models, in particular the reflex viewfinder that has been so successful for the brand.
In these early models, the cell, located under the lens, is powered by a rechargeable battery that can be recharged by a simple cable connected to the mains.
From 1962 onwards, the MAR 8 was equipped with a GOSSEN airframe and renamed MAR 8-G, which explains the small number of these early models on online auction sites.
