A set of cone-shaped metal weights that fit into each other, the last or largest one having a lid on which all the others can be placed. The largest piece is called a keeper and the smallest, which is usually solid, is called a disc.

Nested cup weights were used from the 14th to the 19th century, although most of the surviving ones come from the 16th, 17th or 18th centuries.

This ponderal has seven pieces and the keeper, which also has a handle.
